# Best AI onboarding agents and tools for SaaS in 2026

> Ten AI onboarding tools for SaaS in 2026. Behavly emails each new user about their own setup; the rest are in-app assistants or software that drafts tours.

AI onboarding tools do three different jobs. Some work from the inbox: an AI onboarding agent writes each new user an email about where they got stuck, which reaches people whether or not they come back. Some build onboarding for your team: you describe a tour or checklist in the onboarding software and the AI drafts it. And some guide users live inside your product: an AI onboarding assistant answers questions and starts walkthroughs. Most of the tools people compare do one of these, so start with the job.

- **Behavly** (our product): best for onboarding that reaches every new user, including the ones who left, with an email written from what they did in your product.
- **Userpilot**: best all-round onboarding suite, with an agent (Lia) that analyzes product data and drafts in-app content.
- **Appcues**: best for building in-app experiences across web and native mobile from a plain-language brief.
- **Pendo**: best if you want analytics and guides in one place, with a free plan to start.
- **Chameleon**: best for polished web tours and microsurveys, with an AI copilot that builds most of an experience.
- **Intercom Fin**: best if you already run support on Intercom and want one AI answering users everywhere.
- **Userflow**: best for an in-app agent that answers questions and launches the right flow on the spot.
- **UserGuiding**: best budget in-app assistant that answers from your help content.
- **Product Fruits**: best value, with an in-app agent that builds walkthroughs live on the user’s screen.
- **Frigade**: best for an assistant that learns your product by using it.

#### AI onboarding assistant vs. AI onboarding agent

The two names get used for the same tools, but they describe different jobs. An **AI onboarding assistant** waits inside your product, usually as a chat or help widget: a new user asks how to do something, and it answers from your help content or starts a walkthrough. An **AI onboarding agent** acts on its own: it follows what each new user does after signing up and, when someone stops short of a step, writes to them about that step by email, whether or not they come back. A third kind of AI onboarding software helps your team rather than your users, drafting tours and checklists in the editor.

| | AI onboarding agent | AI onboarding assistant | AI in onboarding software |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Where it works | Each new user’s inbox | Inside your product, usually as chat; some also on support channels | Your team’s editor |
| What starts it | What a user did, or didn’t do, after signing up | A user asking a question | Your team describing what to build |
| What it works from | That user’s own activity in your product | Your help center, docs and other sources you approve | Your brief, plus the product data the tool collects |
| Reaches users who stopped logging in | Yes: the email is about the step they stopped at | No: it answers the people who come to it | Only through template emails your team writes, on the tools that send email |
| On this list | Behavly | Intercom Fin, Userflow, UserGuiding, Product Fruits, Frigade | Userpilot, Appcues, Pendo, Chameleon |

Vendors use the words loosely: Userflow calls its in-app helper an Adoption Agent, and Frigade calls its agent the Assistant. Sort them by where the AI acts and whom it talks to, not by the name. For activation, the two sides meet: an assistant helps the new users who come back, and an agent writes to the ones who didn’t.

#### How we picked

We started from the tools search results and AI answers name most often for “AI onboarding agent for SaaS”, then read each vendor’s own product pages, documentation and pricing on October 24, 2026; each entry below links to its source. Most published rankings for this question are written by one of the vendors. So is this one: Behavly is our product. We held it to the same five questions as everyone else:

- **What the AI does**: drafts content for your team, talks to users, or writes to users.
- **Where it acts**: inside your web app, in native mobile apps, in chat, or by email.
- **What it works from**: product events, your help docs, or each person’s activity.
- **Who approves**: whether a person reviews what the AI made before users see it.
- **Price**: the lowest plan that includes the AI, and what it’s metered on.

> Note: One pattern held across all nine in-app tools: where they send email, it’s a template your team writes, with fields like a first name filled in. None of them describe AI writing an email for each user from that user’s own activity. Their per-person AI happens in chat, inside the product.

#### AI onboarding tools compared

| Tool | Kind | The AI | Where it acts | Platforms | Free plan | AI from |

Prices are billed monthly unless noted. MAU means monthly active users; Chameleon counts monthly tracked users (MTU).

#### AI onboarding agents that follow up by email

In-app assistants and tours only reach people who come back. The new users who stall usually don’t, so a tour or assistant inside the product never gets its turn. Email reaches them anyway. The useful kind isn’t a fixed day-1, day-3, day-7 sequence; it’s an email about the step this person is stuck on. That’s [how an AI follow-up agent works](https://behavly.io/guides/ai-follow-up-agent): it reads what each person did and writes the next email from it.

##### Behavly

Behavly, our product, is built for this side. A script tag on your signed-in app records what each new user does, with no identify call. You describe the onboarding path in plain words, such as “welcome them, wait two days, and if they haven’t imported anything, help with the import”, and Behavly lays it out as emails, waits and branches.

When someone reaches an email step, Behavly writes that email from what they’ve done so far. A user who connected their data and stopped at invites gets a different email from one who never got past the import. With **Skip if they already did it** on, an email whose job is done isn’t sent at all.

Run the path **Always on** and Behavly re-checks for new users every 10 minutes; each one enters once, soon after they sign up, so onboarding runs without anyone starting it. Set its **Goal** to your activation moment, such as a `project_created` event, and Behavly counts who reaches it and credits the last email each person got before they did.

- **Where it’s strong**: Reaching people who left before onboarding was done, with an email about their own progress rather than a generic tip. Branches can wait for a login, a page visit or an action in your product. **Preview** writes any step for a real user before you activate. Each email can be written in the reader’s language, from 23.
- **What in-app assistants can’t do**: A tour, checklist or chat only reaches people who open your product again. Behavly reaches every new user in their inbox, including the ones who signed up and never came back, and the email is about the exact step they stopped at.
- **Pricing**: Free covers 100 tracked contacts and 50 [personalized emails](https://behavly.io/help-center/plans/comparing-plans) a month, and template emails never count against it. Starter is $79/month for 2,500 tracked contacts and 2,000 personalized emails; Growth is $249/month for 10,000 and 8,000. Always-on onboarding paths run on every plan, Free included.

#### Onboarding software with an AI builder

These four are onboarding software with an AI in the editor. You describe what you want new users to see, and the agent drafts the tour, checklist, survey or segment. Someone on your team reviews it and publishes. Users never talk to the AI; they see the finished in-app experience.

##### Userpilot

Userpilot’s agent, **Lia**, works across your product data: events, features, user and company profiles, surveys and session replays. It runs built-in skills to answer questions, build segments, reports and dashboards, and draft surveys and in-app content. Userpilot’s docs say Lia won’t publish surveys or change live content on its own.

- **Where it’s strong**: One suite for flows, checklists, surveys, analytics and replays, with Lia on every plan. Behavior-triggered email on Growth and above.
- **Where it falls short**: Its docs say Lia can’t analyze a feature or event that isn’t tagged. Starter has no email, and the emails on Growth come from a drag-and-drop builder and templates rather than from AI. Native iOS and Android are a paid add-on.
- **Pricing**: [Starter $299/month](https://userpilot.com/pricing/) for up to 2,000 MAU. Growth from $849/month. Enterprise on request. A 14-day trial with no card.

##### Appcues

**Appcues AI** plans and builds in-app experiences, campaigns and dashboards from a plain-language request, and answers questions about your users. Its docs put it simply: describe what you want and it builds a draft you refine and publish. It works from your brief, the moments you’ve marked as key and the properties and events Appcues collects.

- **Where it’s strong**: Native mobile SDKs for iOS, Android, React Native, Flutter and Ionic, alongside the web. Appcues says nothing goes live until you approve it. Workflows add email and mobile push.
- **Where it falls short**: No published prices, and each plan caps how many experiences you can have published (10 on Start, 25 on Grow, 100 on Enterprise). The AI can’t create themes.
- **Pricing**: [Start (up to 3,000 MAUs), Grow and Enterprise](https://www.appcues.com/pricing), all quoted. No free plan; a trial follows a sales call.

##### Pendo

Pendo’s agent, **Leo** (called Agent mode until March 2026), answers questions about adoption, retention and sentiment from your pages, features, events and accounts. Since July 2026 it also drafts in-app guides for you to review, refine and launch. Orchestrate adds email, built from templates in Pendo’s design studio.

- **Where it’s strong**: Product analytics and guides in one tool, on web and mobile, with Leo included in every plan. A free plan covers up to 500 MAUs.
- **Where it falls short**: Paid plans are priced on request. On the free plan, passing 500 MAUs stops you creating new guides. AI guide creation is in open beta.
- **Pricing**: [Free up to 500 MAUs](https://www.pendo.io/pricing/). Base, Core and Ultimate on request.

##### Chameleon

Chameleon’s **Copilot** plans, writes, builds and checks tours, tooltips, microsurveys and launchers, getting you most of the way before you finish in the builder. Companion agents find friction in sessions (Compass) and adapt microsurveys per user (Prism); Chameleon lists per-user copy personalization as coming soon.

- **Where it’s strong**: Polished, on-brand web experiences, and audience changes made by the AI need a person to approve them.
- **Where it falls short**: Web only, with no native mobile apps, and no email to users. Copilot isn’t listed on the Startup plan, and it can’t add steps to an experience that already exists.
- **Pricing**: [Startup from $279](https://www.chameleon.io/plans) for 2,000 MTUs, without Copilot. Pro from $750/month for 5,000 MTUs, with Copilot and 10,000 AI credits. Growth from $1,250/month billed yearly.

#### AI onboarding assistants inside your product

These assistants talk to your users. A new user asks how to do something, and the agent answers from your help content, starts the right walkthrough, or in some cases does the task for them. They only help people who are in the product and ask, which makes them strong for active users and silent for the ones who left.

##### Intercom Fin

**Fin** is Intercom’s AI agent. It answers customers on chat, email, SMS, WhatsApp, voice and more, from your knowledge base and policies, and it also works alongside other help desks. Intercom lists a Fin role for onboarding, which walks customers through setup step by step, as coming soon.

- **Where it’s strong**: One AI across support channels, priced on outcomes. If your team already lives in Intercom, it’s the shortest path.
- **Where it falls short**: The onboarding role isn’t live yet. Product Tours and Checklists are a paid add-on, Proactive Support Plus at $99/month for 500 messages, built for web apps, with no AI described in the tours themselves.
- **Pricing**: Fin is [$0.99 per outcome](https://fin.ai/pricing), with a 50-outcome monthly minimum when used on its own. Intercom seats start at [$29 per seat](https://www.intercom.com/pricing) a month on Essential at the new-customer price, billed monthly. A 14-day trial.

##### Userflow

Userflow’s **Adoption Agent** answers in-app questions from the sources you approve (your help center, docs and URLs) and launches the right flow on the spot. With Action Flows it can complete tasks for the user, but only the ones you’ve built and turned on. FlowAI helps your team build, rephrase and translate flows.

- **Where it’s strong**: Answers that turn straight into a guided flow, and agent actions limited to what you’ve enabled.
- **Where it falls short**: The agent is only on Studio and above. Web and mobile web only, with no native apps, and no email to users.
- **Pricing**: [Essentials $300/month](https://www.userflow.com/pricing) ($240 billed yearly) and Studio $500/month ($400 yearly), each with 1,000 MAUs. Studio includes 500 agent answers a month; 500 more are $50.

##### UserGuiding

UserGuiding’s **AI Assistant** is an in-app chat that answers from your knowledge base, URLs, snippets and PDFs. On Growth and above it can also start a walkthrough mid-conversation. Lighthouse AI, in beta, drafts segments and help articles that stay unpublished until you review them.

- **Where it’s strong**: A lower entry price than most in-app suites, and AI answers billed per resolution after a free allowance.
- **Where it falls short**: Web only, no email to users. Starting guides from chat, fallback actions and the prompt modifier need Growth.
- **Pricing**: At 2,000 MAU: [Starter $349/month](https://userguiding.com/pricing) ($249 billed yearly), Growth $699/month ($499 yearly). The assistant includes 50 resolutions, then $0.69 each.

##### Product Fruits

Product Fruits’ agent, **Elvin**, answers users from your help docs and builds walkthroughs on request, live on their screen. A second agent helps your team draft flows, checklists and lifecycle emails that you edit and publish. A flow can send an email through your own SMTP, SendGrid, Amazon SES or Mailgun.

- **Where it’s strong**: The lowest entry price here for an in-app agent, and native iOS as well as web.
- **Where it falls short**: Starter includes 20 AI chats a month. Emails are subject and body fields you fill in, with placeholders, sent through infrastructure you set up.
- **Pricing**: At 1,500 MAU: [Starter $149/month](https://productfruits.com/pricing) ($111 billed yearly), Pro $249 ($187), Business $499 ($374). Extra AI chats are $37 per 100.

##### Frigade

Frigade’s **Assistant** learns your product by signing in and using it, alongside your docs and help center. It gives users on-screen walkthroughs, takes actions through skills you define and nudges them proactively. It installs through a React or JavaScript SDK.

- **Where it’s strong**: An agent that understands the product itself, not only the help center. Self-hosting on Enterprise.
- **Where it falls short**: The highest entry price of the ten, and rates past the included queries aren’t published. Web only, with mobile web in early access, and no email.
- **Pricing**: [Growth from $1,000/month](https://frigade.com/pricing) for 2 agents and 2,500 queries. Enterprise on request.

#### How to choose

| If you want | Start with |
| --- | --- |
| To reach every new user, including those who stalled and left, with an email about their own progress | Behavly |
| Onboarding software for tours, checklists, surveys and analytics, with AI help building them | Userpilot or Pendo |
| In-app onboarding in native mobile apps too | Appcues, or Pendo |
| Beautiful web tours that an AI drafts for you | Chameleon |
| One AI answering users across support and onboarding | Intercom Fin |
| An in-app assistant that answers and then starts the right walkthrough | Userflow, UserGuiding or Product Fruits |
| An assistant that learns the product by using it | Frigade |

The two sides work well together. An in-app tool helps the people who are in the product right now; Behavly writes to the ones who aren’t, about the step they stopped at. If you run both, decide which tool nudges for which step, so nobody gets an in-app prompt and an email about the same thing.

## Questions

### What is an AI onboarding agent?

Software that uses AI to get new users to activation, their first success. Behavly writes each new user an onboarding email from what they did in your product. Others build in-app content for your team (Userpilot’s Lia, Appcues AI, Pendo’s Leo, Chameleon’s Copilot) or guide users live inside the product (Intercom Fin, Userflow, UserGuiding, Product Fruits, Frigade).

### What’s the difference between an AI onboarding assistant and an AI onboarding agent?

An AI onboarding assistant sits inside your product and answers the new users who ask, from your help content, sometimes starting a walkthrough. An AI onboarding agent, such as Behavly, follows what each new user does and emails them about the step they stopped at, so it also reaches people who never log back in.

### What are the best AI onboarding tools for SaaS?

Behavly, for an AI onboarding agent that emails each new user about their own setup, written from what they did in your product. For an AI onboarding assistant inside the product, Userflow, UserGuiding, Product Fruits, Frigade or Intercom Fin. For onboarding software whose AI drafts tours and checklists for your team, Userpilot, Appcues, Pendo or Chameleon.

### Is there a free AI onboarding tool?

Yes. Behavly is free for as long as you need, for up to 100 tracked contacts, and writes 50 personalized onboarding emails a month on that plan. Pendo has a free plan up to 500 monthly active users, with its Leo agent included. The other tools here offer trials rather than free plans.

### Can AI onboarding tools email users who stopped logging in?

Yes. Behavly emails each new user about the step they stopped at, written from their own activity, so it reaches people who never open your product again. Several in-app tools also send email (Userpilot on Growth, Appcues Workflows, Pendo Orchestrate, Product Fruits flows), from templates your team writes.

### Do these tools publish anything without approval?

The AI builders draft for review: Userpilot says Lia won’t change live content on its own, and Appcues says nothing goes live until you approve it. In-app assistants answer users directly by design. In Behavly, **Hold Behavly-written emails for approval** keeps every email it writes in Review until you release it.
