Automations asks for a name and what starts the campaign. Continue opens the path builder, where you lay out the emails, waits and branches each person goes through. Nothing sends until you activate it.
Two Kinds Of Campaign
- Pattern Campaign
- Starts from a group: all users, a pattern Behavly detected, a saved pattern, form leads, or specific people you pick by hand, paste or import from a CSV. How it runs decides who gets the path. See Who Enters A Pattern Campaign.
- Trigger Campaign
- Starts the moment your product sends a trigger, like a failed payment. Each person enters as it fires for them. Triggers are made in Triggers. See Start A Campaign From A Trigger.
Once Or Always On
A Pattern Campaign has one choice, How it runs, on its Who enters step.
- Once
- Everyone in the group when it starts gets the path, then the campaign stops by itself and shows Completed. People who join the group later don't enter. People you pick by hand always run once.
- Always on
- Everyone who joins the group later starts the path too. It keeps running until you pause or stop it. Also the people in it now lets the people already in the group enter when it starts; off, only people who join later enter.
A campaign that runs Once can still switch to Always on after it has started. People already on the path keep their place, and from then on everyone who joins the group enters too. Also the people who joined since it started decides whether the people who joined in between enter; it starts off. An Always on campaign can't go back to Once: duplicate it to run the same path once.
The Steps
- 1Open Automations in the left menu.
- 2Give it a name, choose Pattern Campaign or Trigger Campaign, then Continue. The path builder opens with the name carried across.
- 3A popup asks how to start. Describe the path: say who it is for and what each email should do, choose Build the path, and Behavly lays out the emails, waits and branches for you to check. Or, for a Pattern Campaign, Build the path yourself with Choose who enters. For a Trigger Campaign, pick one of your triggers from the list, or New trigger.
- 4On the canvas, every connection has a + for adding a step: an email Behavly writes, one of your templates, a wait, a branch, or a stop. Select a step to change its settings.
- 5Set the campaign-wide settings in the bar along the top: Start, Sender, Goal, Leave when, Sending window, Frequency, Replies, Review and Re-entry (If it happens again on a Trigger Campaign).
- 6Click Activate. A summary shows what the campaign will do, step by step, before you confirm.
Start is Right away by default. Choose On a date and the campaign waits as Scheduled after you activate it: nobody enters and nothing is sent until then. See When A Campaign Starts And Sends.
Drafts
A new campaign is a draft. It saves the first time you choose Save draft or Activate, and on its own every couple of seconds after that. Leaving and coming back restores what you had.
Plans
Every campaign type works on every plan, Free included: Pattern Campaigns that run Once or Always on, and Trigger Campaigns, with no plan limit on how many. Emails Behavly writes use the plan's monthly personalized emails (50 on Free). See Running A Campaign.
