Userlist alternatives for SaaS teams in 2026

Six Userlist alternatives for SaaS lifecycle email compared on price, channels and AI writing, with prices checked in October 2026 and where each one wins.

Updated October 10, 2026 · Competitor details checked October 10, 2026 on each vendor’s own site

The best Userlist alternatives are Loops, Encharge, Bento, Customer.io, Vero and Behavly, and the right one depends on what you need.

  • Loops: best for simpler email at a lower price.
  • Encharge: best for flows driven by billing events from Stripe, Chargebee or Paddle.
  • Bento: best for low-cost automation with an AI assistant included.
  • Customer.io: best for SMS, push and in-app on one platform.
  • Vero: best for teams whose product data lives in a warehouse.
  • Behavly: best for having an AI agent write each follow-up from that user’s activity in your product.

If your lifecycle runs at the company level, with campaigns triggered by what an account does, Userlist’s B2B data model is its strongest point. Weigh that before switching.

Userlist is built for B2B SaaS. Users and companies have many-to-many relationships, email and in-app messages share one tool, and transactional email is included. New accounts also get a 60-minute roadmapping session.

People look elsewhere mostly over price and plan limits. The entry plan is $149/month, and it counts every user, active or not, using the high-water mark of the previous 30 days. Because that price covers up to 10,000 users, a product with 1,000 users pays the same as one with 10,000.

Basic also caps custom events at 20, and A/B split testing and conversion goals need Professional at $349/month. There’s no SMS or push, and no free plan: the 14-day trial asks for a card upfront.

Behavly: best for follow-ups written from what each user did

This one is our own product, so weigh it accordingly. Userlist models companies as well as users; Behavly’s unit is the person. It’s an AI agent that keeps one profile per signed-in user, builds the follow-up paths you describe and writes every email from that person’s activity.

That profile is one per human, not one per browser: someone on a laptop and a phone appears once, with activity from both attached. Where Userlist takes data through its API, libraries or Segment, Behavly’s comes from one script tag, with no identify call. behavly.track adds product actions such as project_created when you want them.

Audiences are built from people, too. Describe a group in plain language and Behavly turns the description into a rule, then shows who matches before anything is saved. Or pick a group it detected on its own.

Any of those groups can feed a Behavly Agent: an always-on path that people enter as they qualify, branching on what each one does. Behavly can lay the path out from a one-sentence description. A/B tests on any email step and a goal for the path come with the $79 Starter plan; Userlist keeps both for Professional.

Each email is written for one person, in any of 80 languages, and sent from your own mailbox. For a business contact, Behavly can also read their company’s public website, so the email can put the payoff in their business’s terms.

Where it’s strong
Every email is written from one person’s activity, not a template with fields merged in. Tracking, heatmaps painted on your live site, and email sit in one tool. A/B tests and goals from the first paid plan. Email arrives from a real mailbox, so it reads like a one-to-one note. Replies come back to Behavly’s inbox with the sender’s activity beside them. You approve the emails before they go out. A free plan with no time limit, and $79/month for 2,500 tracked contacts against Userlist’s $149.
Where it falls short
Email only: no in-app messages (which Userlist has), SMS or push. Profiles are per person. If your lifecycle runs on account-level data, such as a company’s plan or how many of its users are active, Userlist’s company model fits better. It isn’t built for newsletters or transactional email. Sending through your own mailbox over IMAP/SMTP suits personal, one-to-one volume, not bulk sends. Fewer integrations: no native Stripe, Segment, HubSpot or Zapier connection, though there’s a REST API and an MCP server. At 10,000 users it costs more than Userlist Basic.
Pricing
Free (100 tracked contacts, 50 AI-written emails a month). Starter $79/month (2,500 tracked contacts, 2,000 AI emails, one Agent). Growth $249/month (10,000 tracked contacts, 8,000 AI emails, five Agents). Scale $699/month (40,000 tracked contacts), sold through sales.

Loops: best for simpler email at a lower price

Loops is an email tool for SaaS that keeps product, marketing and transactional email in one place. Against Userlist, the draw is price and simplicity: $99/month at 10,000 contacts against $149. Unsubscribed contacts don’t count, and there are no seat fees.

A workflow can start when a contact is added, updated or joins a list. Events from the API, or from integrations such as Segment, RudderStack and PostHog, can start one too. Each is built from emails, timers, audience filters, branches and experiments.

Where it’s strong
Pricing on subscribed contacts only, unlimited sends on paid plans and no seat fees. A generous free tier. Transactional email included on paid plans. Integrations with Stripe, Segment, Zapier, Make, Supabase, Clerk, PostHog and HubSpot. An API, a CLI and an MCP server for developers and AI agents.
Where it falls short
Email only, so you lose Userlist’s in-app messages. Workflows are built around contacts, so check how you would handle company-level campaigns before switching. No built-in AI writer is documented. Every subscribed contact counts toward the price, active or not.
Pricing
Free for your 1,000 newest contacts, up to 4,000 sends in any rolling 30 days, with a “Powered by Loops” footer. Paid from $49/month (5,000 contacts), $99/month (10,000) and $199/month (25,000).

Encharge: best for billing-driven lifecycle email

Encharge is lifecycle email for SaaS with direct billing connections: Stripe, Chargebee, Chargify, Paddle and Recurly. It also links to Zapier, webhooks, Typeform, Slack and Calendly.

Flows are built from triggers, filters and actions, with segmentation on website and email behavior and lead scoring. Magic Writer generates subject lines, outlines or whole emails in the editor, and AI Autocomplete rewrites or expands a selection.

Where it’s strong
Deep SaaS billing integrations without engineering work. A/B tests on a single email, a sequence or a whole flow. AI writing help in the editor. Unlimited seats and flows, where Userlist allows 5 or 10 seats.
Where it falls short
Product-event tracking (the Ingest API and event-based segments), Segment, HubSpot, Salesforce and transactional email are Premium only, and at 10,000 subscribers Premium costs $399/month. Email only, with no in-app messaging. Monthly sends are capped at 10 times your subscribers on Growth and 12 times on Premium, with overages beyond that.
Pricing
Growth from $99/month (2,000 subscribers), or $79/month billed yearly, and $249/month at 10,000. Premium from $159/month, or $129/month billed yearly. A 14-day free trial.

Bento: best for low cost with an AI assistant included

Bento is email automation for indie and small SaaS and ecommerce teams. Activity comes in through a JavaScript SDK (bento.identify, bento.track) and an Events API, and flows branch on tags, fields, segments or Liquid expressions.

Its AI assistant, Tanuki, drafts whole flows, writes and edits copy and builds segments. It either waits for your approval or applies changes straight away. Where Userlist counts every user, Bento counts active users: people who are subscribed or had an event in the last 30 days.

Where it’s strong
A low entry price and pricing on active users. Unlimited marketing email, subject to fair use, and no seat fees. Tanuki AI included with unlimited use. Very cheap transactional email.
Where it falls short
In-app messages aren’t listed; push, SMS, WhatsApp and live chat need the $30/month Chat add-on. Segment works through a destination function rather than a native catalog app. A/B testing is documented for broadcasts only.
Pricing
$29/month for up to 5,000 active users, then $0.01 per active user up to 50,000, which comes to $79/month at 10,000. Transactional email: the first 100 a month free, then $5/month up to 12,500. A 30-day free trial; no free plan.

Customer.io: best for more channels on one platform

Customer.io is the pick when you’ve outgrown email and in-app and want SMS, push, WhatsApp and LINE as well, all on its entry plan. At 10,000 profiles it costs $145/month, close to Userlist Basic.

Journeys are built in a visual workflow builder with True/False, Multi-Split and Random Cohort branches. A/B and multivariate testing come with every plan, and data arrives through SDKs, an API, webhooks or Segment.

Where it’s strong
Broad native channels, including in-app messages, on the entry plan. Mature journey logic and testing without a plan upgrade. Transactional and marketing email in one place. Unlimited seats.
Where it falls short
A $100/month floor, and billing counts every identified profile and object, active or not. Warehouse, Salesforce and HubSpot integrations need Premium, from $1,000/month billed yearly. Your team designs the journeys and writes the copy, and the AI Agent that helps is in beta. Best with engineering support for the data side.
Pricing
Essentials from $100/month (5,000 profiles, 1M emails a month) and $145/month at 10,000. Premium from $1,000/month billed yearly. A 14-day trial; no free plan.

Vero: best for teams with warehouse or CDP data

Vero suits data-mature product teams. Workflows react to events in real time, and segments update as events arrive. Data comes from its track API, Segment or RudderStack, or straight from Snowflake, Redshift or BigQuery, all on the entry plan. SQL segment import is there too.

It sends email and iOS/Android push, through its own provider or your SendGrid, Mailgun or Mailjet account.

Where it’s strong
Pricing on events and messages rather than stored profiles. Warehouse and CDP data on the entry plan. Bring your own email provider. Email plus mobile push. A/B testing on both plans, unlimited seats, and an MCP server through which Claude can build audiences and draft campaigns.
Where it falls short
Starter’s limits (10,000 emails and 160,000 events a month) lead to Professional, which has no public price. SMS is Professional only, and in-app messaging isn’t listed.
Pricing
Starter $54/month, or $49/month billed yearly: 5,000 user profiles, 10,000 emails, 20,000 push messages and 160,000 tracked events a month. Professional is priced on usage.

What 10,000 users costs on each

Userlist’s entry plan covers up to 10,000 users, so that’s the fairest size to compare at. Each tool counts its audience differently, so read the second column as well as the first.

ToolPrice at 10,000What that includes
Userlist$149/month (Basic); $349/month (Professional)500,000 emails a month; 5 or 10 seats; A/B tests and conversion goals on Professional
Behavly$249/month (Growth)10,000 tracked contacts, 8,000 AI-written emails a month, 3 mailboxes, 10 seats, 5 Agents
Loops$99/month10,000 subscribed contacts, unlimited sends, transactional email, no seat fees
Encharge$249/month Growth ($199 billed yearly); $399/month Premium ($319 billed yearly)Sends up to 10 times subscribers (12 on Premium); product events and transactional email on Premium

VeroStarter $54/month lists 5,000 profiles and 10,000 emails a monthPast Starter’s limits, Professional is priced on usage

Below 10,000 the picture changes, because Userlist still charges $149: at 2,500 users, Behavly’s Starter is $79/month and Bento is $29/month.
