Best AI tools for SaaS onboarding and follow-up emails (2026)

What the AI in eight SaaS email tools actually writes: a draft you edit, a whole flow, or each recipient’s own email. Prices checked October 10, 2026.

Updated October 10, 2026 · Competitor details checked October 10, 2026 on each vendor’s own site

Sequenzy and Bento write whole onboarding flows, Encharge and Brevo help draft single emails, and Behavly writes each recipient’s email from their own activity.

  • Sequenzy: best for a cheap first draft of every lifecycle flow, written from your website.
  • Bento: best for an AI assistant that builds flows and edits copy, included from $29 a month.
  • Behavly: best for follow-ups where each person gets an email written from what they did in your product.
  • ActiveCampaign: best for AI spread across a large automation and CRM platform.
  • Customer.io: best for multi-channel teams that want AI help inside a full journey builder.
  • Encharge: best for AI writing help in a lifecycle tool tied to your billing system.
  • Brevo: best for AI-drafted copy on the smallest budget.
  • Loops and Vero: best if you’d rather bring your own AI assistant, such as Claude, through MCP.

Four kinds of AI email writing

“AI writes your emails” means different things in different tools. Before you compare prices, check which of these a tool does. It decides how personal the result can be, and how much you need to review.

An assistant in the editor
You ask for a subject line or a draft, edit it, and save it as a template. Every recipient then gets the same text, with merge fields such as a first name. Encharge’s Magic Writer and Brevo’s AI content generator work this way.
A flow builder
The AI drafts a whole sequence: the trigger, the waits, the branches and each email’s copy. The result is still one version of each email per step or segment. Sequenzy, Bento’s Tanuki, ActiveCampaign’s AI builders and Customer.io’s AI Agent sit here.
Per-recipient writing
The AI writes a separate email for each person when it’s their turn, from that person’s own data. Two people at the same step get different emails. Behavly works this way, writing each email from what that person did in your product.
Your own AI, through MCP
The tool has no writer of its own. An assistant such as Claude connects to it and drafts emails or campaigns for you. Loops and Vero document this route.

None of these wins every time. A reviewed template gives you control over every word. Per-recipient writing can mention what each person actually did, but you trust the AI with each email, so a review step matters more.

How we picked

We picked tools a SaaS team could use for onboarding and follow-up email, where the vendor’s own pages say what the AI writes. AI that only touches subject lines or send times didn’t count. Each tool also had to trigger email from user behavior and publish a price.

Prices come from each vendor’s pricing page, read on October 10, 2026. Behavly is our product. It’s here because writing each email from a person’s activity is exactly this question, and it gets the same pros and cons as the rest.

Sequenzy: best for a cheap first draft of every flow

Sequenzy starts from your website. Give it the address and it drafts whole sequences and campaigns: the trigger, the timing, each subject line and the copy. Each flow is written for the segment it targets, and designs follow your brand.

Events come from Stripe, PostHog, Clerk or a POST from your backend. Automations have branches, delays and conditions. Through its MCP server, an agent can build a segment and write the emails, and nothing sends until you approve.

Where it’s strong
The quickest route from nothing to a full set of lifecycle flows. Priced per email, with unlimited contacts and team members and every feature on every plan. Subject-line A/B tests pick their own winner. Revenue attribution through billing data, and localization included.
Where it falls short
The copy is written per flow and segment, so everyone at the same step gets the same email. It’s a newer platform, which its own blog lists as a con, along with no native Segment catalog destination.
Pricing
Free for 2,500 emails a month. Paid from $19/month (15,000 emails), $49 (60,000) and $99 (120,000).

Bento: best for an AI assistant that comes with the plan

Bento’s assistant is called Tanuki. It drafts flows with their triggers, delays, conditions, branches and emails. It also writes and edits copy in the visual, plain-text and HTML editors, builds segments, and answers questions about the product.

You choose how much it does alone. In “Ask” mode it waits for your approval. In “YOLO” mode it applies changes straight away.

Where it’s strong
Tanuki is included with unlimited use, on a plan that starts at $29/month. It helps across the whole job, from flow structure to wording. Pricing counts active users only.
Where it falls short
Its pages describe writing in the editor, not a separate email per recipient, so personal detail comes from Liquid fields and branches. A/B testing is documented for broadcasts only. Push, SMS and WhatsApp cost $30/month more. No free plan.
Pricing
$29/month up to 5,000 active users, then $0.01 per active user up to 50,000. A 30-day free trial.

Behavly: best for an email written from each person’s activity

Behavly, our product, takes the per-recipient approach. Its tracking script records what each signed-in user does. When a campaign or path reaches someone, Behavly writes that person’s email then, from their own activity.

Each email draws on the person’s activity, the group the campaign targets and your saved brand details. For a business contact, it also uses their company’s public website. You set the sender’s voice (Personal, Team or Company), and the email can be in any of 80 languages.

On an always-on Agent path, each email step has instructions, such as “nudge them to invite a teammate.” Preview writes the step for a real person without sending it. You can A/B test two sets of instructions, and a weekly path review suggests changes once 20 emails have gone out.

Where it’s strong
Two people at the same step get different emails, each about what they did. A designed template can keep its layout while Behavly edits the wording per person. You approve the emails before they go out: approval is on by default for one-time campaigns, and an Agent can hold every written email.
Where it falls short
You don’t write every word, so reviewing matters. Each written email, preview and test uses your monthly AI email allowance. People with no recorded activity give it less to write from. Email only: no SMS, push, in-app, transactional email or newsletters. Your own mailbox suits one-to-one volume. Few integrations, and more per contact than Loops or Bento.
Pricing
Free (100 tracked contacts, 50 AI-written emails a month). Starter $79/month (2,000 AI emails, one Agent). Growth $249/month (8,000 AI emails, five Agents). Scale $699/month (30,000 AI emails), through sales.

ActiveCampaign: best for AI across a big automation platform

ActiveCampaign is a broad marketing automation and CRM platform with more than 950 automation recipes. Its AI covers an automation builder, a campaign builder, content and image generation, a brand kit and suggested segments.

Product behavior gets in through site tracking or its Event Tracking API, which can trigger an automation. Segment is supported too.

Where it’s strong
AI help at almost every step of building a campaign. Deep automation with CRM options. More than 1,000 integrations, including Stripe, Zapier and Segment. A low entry price for small lists, and a 14-day trial with no card.
Where it falls short
AI access is limited on Starter and Plus, and unlimited only on Pro and Enterprise. Its pages describe AI that builds campaigns and content, not each recipient’s email. Starter allows 5 actions per automation. SMS and transactional email are paid add-ons, and prices climb steeply with contacts.
Pricing
Billed yearly: Starter $15/month (1,000 contacts), $79 (5,000) and $149 (10,000). Pro, with full AI access, from $79/month (1,000 contacts) and $205 at 5,000. Monthly-billed prices aren’t shown.

Customer.io: best for AI inside a full multi-channel platform

Customer.io’s AI Agent, labeled beta, is on every plan. It helps draft and refine messages within your brand voice and guardrails, and can build journeys from a conversation. Essentials includes 3 custom skills and 1 weekly routine.

Around it sit an AI segment builder, an AI message translator and send-time optimization. Journeys also offer LLM actions. AI credits cost $10 per 100,000.

Where it’s strong
AI help inside the most complete platform here, with email, SMS, push, in-app, WhatsApp and LINE on every plan. A/B and multivariate testing on all plans. Unlimited seats.
Where it falls short
The AI Agent is in beta, and your team still owns the journeys and the copy. Events have to be wired up through SDKs, the API or Segment. The $100/month entry counts every identified profile.
Pricing
Essentials from $100/month (5,000 profiles) and $145 at 10,000. Premium from $1,000/month billed yearly. A 14-day trial.

Encharge: best for AI help in a billing-connected tool

Encharge’s Magic Writer generates subject lines, outlines or whole emails, and rewrites subject lines. It works in both the simple and drag-and-drop builders. AI Autocomplete completes, rewrites or expands a selection of 30 to 300 characters in the simple builder.

Around the writer, Encharge is lifecycle email built on billing data from Stripe, Chargebee, Chargify, Paddle and Recurly, with lead scoring and A/B tests on whole flows.

Where it’s strong
Writing help right where you already write. Billing integrations with no code. A/B tests on a single email, a sequence or a flow. Unlimited seats and flows.
Where it falls short
The AI drafts the template you save, so every recipient at a step gets that text. Product events, Segment and transactional email need Premium. Email only.
Pricing
Growth from $99/month (2,000 subscribers), or $79 billed yearly. Premium from $159/month, or $129 billed yearly. A 14-day free trial.

Brevo: best for AI-drafted copy on a small budget

Brevo’s AI content generator drafts subject lines and email copy and adjusts tone, from the $9 Starter plan. Standard, from $18, adds marketing automation, event tracking and AI send-time optimization.

It’s a general marketing platform, priced mostly on email volume, with SMS and transactional email on every plan. Professional adds AI segmentation and product recommendations.

Where it’s strong
The cheapest way to get AI drafting with automation. A free plan. SMS and transactional email included. Over 150 integrations.
Where it falls short
The AI drafts copy you then send to a list or flow, not a separate email per person. The $9 and $18 plans cap contacts at 500, and the next big step is $499/month. Its focus is general marketing rather than SaaS product events.
Pricing
Free (300 emails a day). Starter $9/month and Standard $18/month, each with 5,000 emails and 500 contacts. Standard is $49/month for 15,000 emails and 2,500 contacts.

Loops and Vero: best for bringing your own AI

Neither tool documents an AI writer in its editor. Both expect you to bring an assistant. Loops has an MCP server, a CLI, agent skills for Claude Code, Codex and Cursor, and a markup format that lets agents write emails in code.

Vero’s MCP server, included on all plans, lets Claude build audiences, draft campaigns, schedule broadcasts and journeys, and explain results in plain English.

Where it’s strong
You pick the model and keep your prompts. Developers can manage email next to their code. Loops is free to start, and Vero brings warehouse data and mobile push.
Where it falls short
Someone has to run the assistant and check its work. The drafts are still templates or campaigns, not a separate email per recipient. Both tools need your events wired up first.
Pricing
Loops is free for your 1,000 newest contacts, then $49/month (5,000). Vero Starter is $54/month, or $49 billed yearly, for 5,000 profiles and 10,000 emails.

How to choose an AI email tool

  • You have no lifecycle emails yet and want a full set fast: Sequenzy, or Bento if you want the assistant to keep helping after the first draft.
  • You want to write the emails yourself, with AI help: Encharge or Brevo, or ActiveCampaign on Pro.
  • You already run Customer.io or need several channels: Customer.io’s AI Agent, if you’re comfortable with a beta.
  • You prefer to work from Claude or another assistant: Loops or Vero. Behavly also has an MCP server.
  • You want each person’s follow-up to mention what they did: Behavly.

Whichever you choose, read the first batch before it goes out. With template-style AI, you review once and every send matches. With per-recipient AI, read a sample across very different users, such as a power user and someone who never came back.

For what each onboarding email should say, whoever writes it, see the SaaS onboarding email sequence guide.

Questions

Which AI tool can write my SaaS onboarding emails?
Sequenzy writes whole onboarding sequences from your website, and Bento’s Tanuki drafts flows and copy. Encharge, Brevo and ActiveCampaign help you draft emails in the editor. Customer.io’s AI Agent, in beta, drafts messages and builds journeys. Behavly writes each recipient’s email from what that person did in your product.
What’s the difference between an AI email writer and per-recipient AI emails?
An AI email writer helps you draft one template, and everyone at that step gets the same text with merge fields. Per-recipient AI writes a separate email for each person, from their own data, when they reach that step. The first gives you control of every word. The second can mention what each person did, so review matters more.
Should I review AI-written emails before they send?
Yes, at least until you trust the output. Bento’s Ask mode waits for your approval before changing a flow, and Sequenzy’s agent sends nothing until you approve. In Behavly, approval is on by default for one-time campaigns, and an Agent can hold every written email for review.
Can I use ChatGPT or Claude to write my emails instead?
Yes, through MCP. Loops and Vero both document MCP servers that let an assistant such as Claude draft emails and campaigns. Behavly’s MCP server connects Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and others to your workspace. The difference is who writes: your assistant, or the tool’s own AI.
Which AI email tool is cheapest?
Sequenzy is free for 2,500 emails a month, then $19 for 15,000. Bento includes unlimited Tanuki use from $29/month. Brevo’s AI writer starts at $9, but automation needs the $18 plan. Behavly’s free plan includes 50 AI-written emails a month, and paid plans start at $79.
